One state closer to a national crisis: A report
on elementary social studies education in North Carolina Schools.

Research suggests that although many
elementary teachers integrate
social studies with the language arts, this instruction tends to be poorly designed with little emphasis
on social studies learning.

on science,

Consider this: In 1977, 25 years before No Child Left Behind ushered in the era of high - stakes testing,
elementary school teachers spent only about 50 minutes a day
on science and
social studies combined.
