Most hospitals offer the
help of
lactation consultants who can coach you
on how to practice the perfect latch with your little one.
I always keep a few littlebeam pillows in my
lactation centers to
help moms get closer to their babies while we work
on latch and positioning.
When you hire a personal
lactation counselor to come to your hospital or home, they sit with you for 90 minutes to 2 hours, to really individualize this process to give you the support you need, and to
help the baby latch
on better.
After overcoming many breastfeeding challenges with my older son, I became a
Lactation Educator and Counselor to
help support other mothers and babies
on their breastfeeding journeys.
My pediatrician's office had a
lactation consultant
on staff, and I went to a support group nearby for
help at the beginning, when I needed all the advice I could get.

help evaluate how the baby latches, how the mom positions the baby during feeding, if there are any physical barriers to breast - feeding (tongue adhesions, nipple problems, breast issues, etc.) and will give guidance
on how to optimize the breast - feeding process.

help answer any questions you have about breastfeeding.
(And lack of
lactation support — apart from him being weighed and tsking noises made, there wasn't any
help on offer.)

A
lactation consultant can also
help if your baby can not attach to your breast at all or is unable to stay

We got great
help from the
lactation consultant at our pediatrician's office when baby was 1 week old, but because he'd lost so much weight by then he wasn't strong enough to eat enough
on his own so I had to pump my milk (in addition to nursing) and feed it to him using a SNS for a couple of months.
Many babies have troubles latching
on in the beginning, but in most cases a
lactation consultant can
help you by watching what your baby does and
help you decide for example whether you may need a nipple shield or if you could position your baby in some other way to
help her latch
on.
If he is feedings more than eight to 12 times a day and anything else about his behavior is worrying you I feel like the best cause of action is to see an experienced International Board Certified
Lactation Consultant to
help determine what is going
on and whether it's just a variation of normal.
If you're concerned, get
help from a midwife, health visitor, breastfeeding drop - in clinic or an International Board Certified
Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to reassure yourself that your baby is latching
on properly.
We struggled with breastfeeding and it wasn't until he went
on nursing strike that I got
help from a
lactation consultant.
The best advice the
lactation consultant at the hospital gave me was that the second night was going to be a rough night for breast feeding as the baby wants to
help your milk supply come in and will try to nurse all night long, even if you have nothing there for them to nurse
on.
A
lactation consultant can offer advice
on how to breastfeed properly and give you hands -
on help.
If your newborn won't latch
on or can't latch
on to breastfeed, it's important to get
help from your doctor or a
lactation professional right away to prevent any problems down the line.
But, you'll want to get
help from a
lactation professional and the health care team very early
on to be sure that you're
on the right track.

on your personal goals.

I absolutely LOVED my

on breastfeeding (which I recommend every mom at least tries their best because it is so good for your baby) then I highly recommend you do lots of research and get as much
help from the
lactation consultants at your hospital as you can.

help you get a deeper latch.
Keep a close eye
on how many wet nappies your baby has — and, if you're concerned your baby isn't getting enough breastmilk, you should see a

After your baby is born, I will stay with you for a minimum of one hour to

I liked this when my son was born but really all you need is a good hands
on lactation consultant... books can't really
help with this sort of thing but this was a good jumping off point.
He had a lot of difficulty latching the first month but we've been working
on it with the
help of a wonderful
lactation consultant since he was 2 weeks old.
Personally, I never noticed any effect from herbal supplements, and there are many «
lactation blends»
on the market that claim to
help increase your milk supply.
