on lateral hiring is but a glimpse of what is to come.
Whether they refocus
on lateral hiring, contract / temp - to - hire attorneys, project attorneys, staff attorneys, alumni relations, interview training, marketing, personality testing, or non-traditional positions like pricing directors, the right mix will be different for every firm.

My focus was
on lateral partner
hiring, where I gave a sneak preview of a little exercise I've done looking at the value generated (or not) by a
lateral hiring programme, a task in which I was ably assisted by another Møller consultant, Derek Klyhn.

Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison has made its first ever partner promotion in London,
on the back of its first
lateral hire in the City earlier this year.
As a matter of conduct, you are not generally under a regulatory duty to supervise equity partners, but that is not a reason for letting people go completely off
on their own, and this is even more so with
lateral hires.
It was a relatively quiet year
on the
hiring front for the firm in London with only one
lateral hire, Rod Freeman from Hogan Lovells in September 2017.
Latham & Watkins
on Wednesday announced that the firm has opened a new office in Boston with seven
lateral hires.

on in HK / China are
on hold; and b) there was much more than usual
lateral hiring in this practice area from late ’10 to mid ’11 (right before the slow down in IPOs).
Trade publication IP Law 360 ran a brief story
on January 15 about the
lateral hire with a headline that isn't unusual in the legal press, but was enough to incense Pitcock's former employers — by hyping the star
hire without mentioning the fact that he had been canned for questionable behavior.
Fried Frank announced
on Tuesday the
lateral hire of Bellini, who will be based in Washington, D.C. Bellini's practice focuses

A trio of recent
lateral hires indicates that law firms in London are keeping a close eye
on African energy and infrastructure opportunities, with US law firms at the vanguard of such interest.
I would like to focus
on the integration aspect of
lateral hiring, but first will offer a few quick points regarding the investigation of conflicts and client quality in that context.

Given the often highly disruptive nature of
lateral hires, I worry that firms don't think carefully enough, and holistically enough, before taking
on someone who isn't going to add materially to the business.
