Upon board approval and successful completion of the National Counselor Examination (NCE), applicants must achieve a passing score on this exam reviewing Tennessee law and the current American Counseling Association Code of Ethics.

He currently serves as a reviewing editor for the American Bar Association's Family Law Quarterly, on the editorial board of the Journal of Child Custody, and was a member of the AFCC Think Tank on Shared Parenting.

Where it is not accomplished on a statewide level, training programs should utilize the Code of Ethics and Arbitration Manual as available from the National Association, and if training is at the local Board level, the professional standards procedures of the Board as reviewed and certified to the local Board by legal counsel to ensure due process consistent with law.
