I would probably use a couple coats of polyurethane / polycrylic on a table top, but I've used wax

on painting my
kitchen table with Annie Sloan
chalk paint, and then was going to use AS dark wax to age it a little, AS clear wax
on top.
And finally, I'm planning
on refinishing my
kitchen cabinets with
chalk paint.
I want to use red
chalk paint on my

on my coffee table a couple of weeks ago, still have plenty of the Johnson's wax.Now my
kitchen chairs look like they need changing, think I'm in trouble:) Love the outcome though with this

The oil base primer keeps the cabinets from yellowing later
on because it seals in the old color / stain color and lessens the risk of the
paint chipping off later.You don't «have to» prime with
chalk paint, but I would not recommend skipping oil base primer when
painting kitchen cabinets.
