There was a book for women doing ivf that said something to the effect of «even
though you've worked so hard getting pregnant, now you can go
on and have a
natural pregnancy»... it was kind of phrased in a way to make having a
natural pregnancy /
natural birth would redeem using ART.
Even
though I am a big advocate of
natural and gentle
birth, it is the preparation for
birth that has the biggest impact
on your baby's temperament and
on your satisfaction after
birth.
For example, I was blogging away
on natural birth and
natural induction methods, but my medical midwife was pushing me to induce by 41.5 weeks, even
though by all their interventions and tests, he was measuring «small» and my placenta was certainly fine to wait.
Though Simkin is a respected midwife and
natural birth advocate, this text is written in an unbiased way and is a great primer for the first time parent, no matter what kind of
birth they are planning
on having.
Overall
though, I think this is a great post to get some of the information out there to the general public about
natural birth, something I think American women are sold short
on.
