So you're savvy enough to collect points and miles from
airlines and hotels, but
did you realize that you might be missing out
on other perks by not signing up for some of these lesser known loyalty programs.
Even if you don't have flexibility, finding the lowest price will at least tell you how much of a premium you'll be paying to fly
on your ideal date, and might lead you to investigate booking with
other airlines instead.
American Express, Capital One and one or two
other credit cards have gone from the affiliated card, where you only earn miles
on one program, to a card where you don't earn miles
on an
airline program, you earn points that translate into dollars that actually buy the
airline ticket.
These are «meta search» fare sites, and although they don't offer quite the travel date flexibility as some
others do, they often include fares that the
airlines sell only
on their own websites.
United typically
does not charge exorbitant fuel surcharges or
other hidden fees for its own flights or flights
on its partners like you'll see when redeeming Avios or American
Airlines miles
on British Airways.
The
other way to
do this route very efficiently is by using British Airways Avios to fly
on American
Airlines operated flights.

If Etihad doesn't serve your home airport or your destination, you could add connecting flights

Unlike
other hotel co-branded credit cards, you won't get Gold status as a cardmember unless you charge $ 30,000
on your card annually, but the flexibility of the program to cash in your points for
airline miles with a bonus of 5,000 miles for every 20,000 points redeemed makes it more than worth it — even if you don't frequent Starwood properties.
This doesn't just mean that you can use your American AAdvantage miles to travel
on British Airways, Alaska
Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and
other great carriers in the oneworld alliance.
While they don't necessarily encourage it,
airlines and hotels make money
on mileage and mattress runs just as they would with any
other passenger or guest checking in.
Finally, don't forget about the great short - haul redemptions still found
on British Airways and
other discounted rates found
on other airlines.

Not many credit card sign - up bonuses are worth $ 750, and, most
do not come with the flexibility of Chase Ultimate Rewards that can be redeemed

on award tickets.
My Amex Platinum card covers my Global Entry fee, my American
Airlines status gets me all the benefits that this card offers
on the
airline and I have a number of
other cards that offer most of the
other benefits that this card
does.
They have the best rates (again about 1 / 3rd of
other airlines) but
do not show up
on major booking websites.
If Premium Economy was to only be found
on international routes this seemed like a strange thing to say — you can't upgrade to First Class from any cabin
other than Business Class... and American
Airlines doesn't even have that many aircraft with International First class any more.

$ 40,000 was way too much spend to put
on this card just to get the 10,000 EQM (which is why I haven't
done it in recent years) and most of the
other worthwhile benefits I either get with my
airline status or with
other, cheaper, credit cards that I hold.

other region pairs, such as travel between China and the Caribbean.
