Brenda, you can use chalk paint any where... no you can put it over what you have on your cabinets now.

I would probably use a couple coats of polyurethane / polycrylic on a table top, but I've used wax on my chalk painted kitchen cabinets and they have held up great.

Regarding painting the cabinet to make it go with more: Maybe you should just paint out the blue on the front panels with the same black paint treatment as the casement?
