I did buy AS books and was able to get a great result
on a coffee table
after following her directions using
chalk paint, AS wax and then aging with dark wax.
This
paint must have a very high ammonia content because within a few hours
after completing the stools I smelled a very strong and distinct «cat pee» smell that was driving me crazy... I used vintage grain / feed sacks to upholster the seats and at first I thought maybe that was the problem... but upon further investigation I realized that every square inch of wood that has the Amy Howard
chalk paint on it smells like ammonia... every.single.inch.
I have never tried
chalk paint on a large pice of furniture, but
after seeing this I am going to jump in!
And yes, I
paint the graphics
on after painting the pieces with
chalk paint.
I used black
chalk paint for a dresser but noticed
after painting it when you touch it there are finger prints
on the
paint it looks greasey.
After I waxed with Annie Sloan soft wax I applied General Finishes flat topcoat over the
chalk paint on the rungs of the chairs.

After doing further research
on a
painting / DIY FB group I belong to, I discovered that others have had this same problem with Amy Howard
chalk paint as well and is the very reason why others refuse to use it.
I happened to have this
paint on hand and it was in an egg shell finish and it worked fine but if you are going to have to go buy it I would just get flat because
after you miss the plaster in it's
chalk like anyway.

The first coat of my
chalk paint went
on fine (looked like pics others have posted
after their first coat).
If you are
after a worn and weathered look that will gradually fade away, then you will like the way
chalk paint holds up
on pieces that sit outside.
The reason why I wrote that I would not use
chalk paint on trim is that it would require lots of wax and buffing
after you
painted to keep it shiny.

chalk paints I make my own with plaster of paris almost exclusively... I love it!
In your other videos I interpreted that you
paint with your
chalk paint (1 or 2 coats dependent), then distress, then wax clear (working it down into
paint, wiping off excess), sometimes put
on a second coat of clear (same as above), and then if desired wax with dark wax (waiting 24 hours
after clear wax (or
paint?)
