This seems to have attained a mythical status for some managers who see it as a way round the normal rules
on redundancy selection — sacking all ought to be fair (no selection involved) and then the exercise becomes one of «taking
on»
staff, which is entirely within the employer's discretion (subject to any claims of discrimination).
Motivating
staff against the backdrop of the financial crisis has been difficult, she concedes, with salaries stagnating and
redundancies permanently
on the horizon.
