This result stems from a fresh estimate for an entity characterising these neutrinos, known as
wave packets, which provide information
on both their position and their momentum.
The researchers found that the
wave packets could combine even if their orbits were as large as the transistors
on a computer chip (Physical Review Letters, vol 75, p 1252).

on 31 July 2006 at 13:46 EST during experiment in the Mid-Atlantic Bight off the New Jersey coast shows one of these internal
wave packets several 10's of meters below the surface approaching the ship.
Also recognizable are Rossby
wave packets especially
on the equatorial jet, with retrograde propagation and phase lines that have the characteristic chevron shape indicating angular momentum transport into the jet, as is observed to occur.
