I have been
on a cupcake kick this month, as there have been a few
birthday celebrations
in the family with
cake and cupcakes, as well as a Cupcake Tour I did
in San Francisco through groupon, so I have been
in that state - of - mind.
Hobbits have a tradition that they give other people gifts
on their
birthday — and
in that tradition I present you with a
cake recipe for my upcoming
birthday (

When I was hosting a friend's

in our house a while back, I made these so that I'd have something to eat while everyone else feasted
on the conventional (white flour and white sugar)
cake that my friend's husband had bought.
The favorite
cake of a previous lab member while I was
in graduate school was coconut and while I did not look forward to making such a creation, it was for her
birthday so I sucked it up and made a coconut
cake complete with coconut syrup brushed
on the layers, coconut frosting, and lots of shredded coconut
