The client's
previous kitchen didn't have a very good working triangle, nor did it have good organization for food and other kitchen essentials.
Lots of substitutions were made because I wanted to make it healthier, and also had lots of ingredients I wanted to use up from
previous kitchen experiments and from Choctoberfest, including some chocolate that Allison @ The PinterTest Kitchen sent over!

my previous kitchen (photo above), I mixed up our mostly white Shaker style cabinetry with this mahogany wood cabinet trimmed with bamboo and added the soapstone counter on this cabinet to contrast with the subway tile and then the Brazilian cherry wood counters in the rest of the room.

The double Origami cart peninsula I created (inspiration from the one you removed in
your previous kitchen, Melissa) helped hide the dishwasher, trash can and recycle can, but that surface was always cluttered as well.
Unfortunately I do not have the «before» pictures of the kitchen but I will try to explain
the previous kitchen layout so you could better understand the transformation of the present kitchen area.
Luckily, we reused the knobs from
our previous kitchen and found dupes at IKEA for the expensive pulls that I originally wanted.
The previous kitchen sink had double drain boards and was too large for the space where Sarah wanted to move it, so she brought in this «new» one from an architectural salvage store in D.C.
All worth the wait and, even though my kitchen is a smaller U-shape (similar to
your previous kitchen), there's a world of inspiration here, as always.

her previous kitchen was all white, Shirley changed things up with dark walnut lower cabinetry here.
I hope it all comes together beautifully — and I'm sure it will, based on how gorgeous

The white subway tiled walls are simpler and more utilitarian than the custom marble backsplash of
her previous kitchen, but their cost ballooned when Christine had to special order all the edge pieces to wrap around corners and windows.
Silvery stainless appliances in
the previous kitchen have been replaced with KitchenAid's gorgeous stainless black in the new — «much better for hiding kid fingerprints!»

I put a bookcase in the island of
