British Airways
is a member of the
Oneworld Alliance, so you'll
be able to earn Avios each time you
fly with one of their partner
airlines.
Members of LAN Colombia's LANPass frequent flyer program
are now able to earn and redeem miles and tier status points when they
fly on any
oneworld alliance
airline partner.
Malaysia and Thai, for example, don't
fly to the U.S. at all, but since both of them
are members of an alliance (Malaysia
is a
oneworld member while Thai belongs to Star), you can use these
airlines to
fly on American or United respectively.
If you never
fly American
Airlines or its
Oneworld alliance partners, or if your hometown airport
is a hub for a different
airline, then the above card wouldn't
be a good choice for you since the rewards you
're earning can only
be used to book on American or a partner
airline (Japan
Airlines, for example).
While it may take a while to get more power at every American
Airlines seat, there
's a chance to score bonus miles if you
are flying between North America and Europe on American or its
oneworld partners British Airways, Finnair or Iberia.
Even if you never
fly BA, Avios
are valuable if you use them with
oneworld partners, such as American
Airlines, Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific and more.
The AAdvantage Aviator Red card from Barclays
is a good choice for those who like to
fly on American
Airlines or its
oneworld alliance partners.
Still, if you
fly oneworld airlines fairly often, the benefits can
be worth it.
Terminal 3 has numerous
airline lounges, including British Airways» Galleries Club lounge for passengers
flying in business class or who
are Executive Club Gold and Silver members (or the
oneworld equivalent) and the Galleries First lounge for those
flying in first or who
are Executive Club Gold (or equivalent) members.

is a good card for those who
fly on British Airways or one of the other

US Airways Dividend Miles will receive a bonus of 500 after
flying on a second
oneworld partner (US Airways doesn't count but American
Airlines does) and the bonus increases until six carriers have
been flown, which
is when it hits 25,000 miles.
I mostly
fly on
oneworld airlines where my status gives me a great checked baggage allowance anyway and, when I
'm not
flying on
oneworld airlines, I've usually either booked a fare that gives me a checked baggage allowance anyway or I
'm only traveling with hand baggage.
So the program elite benefits aren't only valuable if you
fly to the Gulf, but also for international flights on the
oneworld member
airlines.
As I generally
fly with
oneworld airlines with which I have top - tier status I never really have to worry about long boarding lines... but for all I knew boarding with Virgin for those without status could
be a zoo.
Etihad Airways
is an American
Airlines partner that
flies to Casablanca via Abu Dhabi, and Qatar Airways
is a
oneworld alliance member that
flies to Casablanca via Doha.
Also from midnight tonight, the 140 million members of the established
oneworld airlines» frequent flyer programmes will
be able to earn and redeem awards and tier status points and receive all other
oneworld benefits when
flying on Qatar Airways.
From midnight tonight, Privilege Club Platinum and Gold members will
be able to access more than 550 airport lounges worldwide offered by
oneworld member
airlines when they
fly with one of the alliance's carriers — five times more than they can use up until now.
Although I predominantly book with
oneworld airlines I always check to see what other carriers
are charging for the routes I
'm looking to
fly — I
'm happy to pay a little more in order to maintain my status for another year but I
'm not prepared to
be fleeced by the likes of American and British Airways.
Unfortunately, there
are no
oneworld airlines flying to Macau.
Qatar
is a member of the
oneworld Alliance, so this means that you can
fly using American
Airlines AAdvantage miles as they
are also a
oneworld member.
While some of my methodology may appear to
be very specific (like when I discuss
oneworld airlines) it can all
be adapted to everyone's individual circumstances — just swap in whatever alliance works best for you or whatever
airline you prefer to
fly with.
You can
fly on any combination of the
airline partners, but you have to stick to the ground rules, and there
are many depending on the type of fare you choose and by continents (
oneworld Explorer) or by the distance traveled (Global Explorer).
You could also deposit your travel to any
Oneworld airline frequent flyer program for travelling with Cathay Pacific, but if you
are travelling in discounted economy fare, most
Oneworld airlines will not offer any miles (earn 25 % of
flown miles with British Airways and 50 % with Finnair)
American
Airlines is offering the following ways to earn and redeem AAdvantage miles when
flying on fellow
oneworld alliance member JAL from West Coast gateways in North America to Tokyo and beyond, through Feb. 29, 2012.
There
are a few ways to collect Malaysia
Airlines miles without
flying, including transferring miles from Citi ThankYou Rewards, crediting mileage from flights on
oneworld partners and earning miles with the
airline's hotel, car rental and retail partners.
Fiji
Airlines is not a member of the
oneworld Alliance, but it
is an individual partner of American
Airlines, so you can redeem AAdvantage miles to
fly to Fiji.
If you
're not
flying domestic, you'll generally get a better deal using British Airways Avios, or another
oneworld member's miles, to
fly on SriLankan
Airlines.
If you
are a holder of American
Airlines AAdvantage miles, you will have a layover — neither American nor other
oneworld members
fly non-stop to Vienna.
It
is a great card for those who often
fly with British Airways or one of the many other
oneworld alliance members, such as American
Airlines, Cathay Pacific or Iberia.

If you
're exclusively making purchases with American
Airlines, the Citi ® / AAdvantage ® Platinum Select ® World Elite ™ Mastercard ®
is a fine choice, but if you also often
fly with British Airways, the British Airways Visa Signature ® Card may
be the way to go as you can still use Avios to
fly American
Airlines since it
's a British Airways
oneworld ®
airline partner and there
's no opportunity for a companion ticket with the American
Airlines card.
Flying to remote but amazing Chilean Paragonia at the beginning of main tourist season
is possible with
Oneworld partners Iberla and LATAM
Airlines.
The good thing
is you don't even have to
fly American
Airlines (although they
are excellent these days) since you can collect miles as long as you
fly their
Oneworld or other
airline partners (which
are — within Europe — Iberia, British Airways and Finnair).
East Cost — Europe can fairly easily
be kept under 10,000 miles
flown, so if you travel on two different
oneworld airlines such as British Airways and Iberia then you can
fly for fewer miles.
LAN (part of
oneworld)
is the only
airline that
flies to Easter Island, and the schedule varies quite widely based on seasons — though you can only
fly there via Santiago, Chile, or Tahiti.
It means you can earn mileage rewards whenever you
fly on
oneworld partner
airlines, using eligible fares — and miles or points to advance your status within your frequent flyer programme.1 And when you
are ready to redeem your rewards, you can choose to do so across the entire
oneworld network, so almost 1,000 destinations await!
