One bright light in Miami is an emphasis on high quality
online education options for struggling learners which they can access at home and in school.
In my own address to the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education this year, I reported that K - 12
online education options continue to expand, with students participating in site - based online labs, hybrid courses, and part - and full - time virtual options that are offered by a variety of providers including charter schools, districts, state supplemental programs, corporations, and colleges.
Though almost all states now
offer online education options to their students, the number of opportunities available and the policies that guide the organization, management, and funding of such programs vary widely.
The agenda seemed to include fighting for the expansion of voucher programs, and increased marketing
of online education options (which many of them are no doubt invested in).
Now, more than 50 years later, the state has more than 650 charter schools, a statewide Florida Virtual School, university lab schools and
online education options operating in every school district.
