Is sulphured or unsulphured molasses still a good option, or
only blackstrap molasses?
Good idea to choose
only Blackstrap Molasses that clearly states «unsulphured» on the label.
I deviated from my usual favorite bran muffin recipe and was pleasantly surprised to find that I could sweeten a muffin with
only blackstrap molasses and be completely satisfied.

Try using baking molasses (or Sorgum is very nutritious, has trace minerals, sweeter than
blackstrap) instead of the corn syrup and brown sugar - not
only is the flavor better, but the popcorn balls will stay fresh a few hours longer as well.
Just don't use
blackstrap; not
only will it be too strong and bitter, but it will overwhelm the spices.
I tried to make these a little healthier by using
blackstrap molasses instead of regular, using
only 1/4 cup oil and adding 1/3 cup applesauce, and using 1 cup King Arthur white whole wheat flour and 3/4 cup quinoa flour.
My 18 month old has never had any milk and I substitute that in his diet with food high in calcium - like collard greens (more calcium per cup than milk) and
blackstrap molasses (20 % daily value for adults in
only ONE tablespoon).
So that and
blackstrap molasses are really the
only two healthful sweeteners.
Susan, try cutting all added sweeteners, even natural like honey / & maple syrup, restricting
only to dates, date sugar, &
blackstrap molasses, as Joel Fuhrman, MD recommends.
Of course it's best to stick with organic unsulfured
blackstrap molasses
only.
