Not surprisingly, given first - time director Stromberg's background in visual effects,
the only other aspect of the film that comes close to being as vivid as Jolie is the elaborately detailed design of the world, from the costumes to production design, to the elaborate visual effects that bring all the flora and fauna to life.
At the same time, these moments provide some
of the
film's funniest bits, which leads me to conclude that Brooks would have been better off concentrating on
only one
of the
aspects for this
film, and saving the
other for a future project.
