I've gotten a couple of emails and learned some stuff from reading the
open thread over there
at THE LEAGUE OF ORDINARY GENTLEMEN.
«Our age is in need of a great philosopher; one who can
thread his way, step by step, through the intricate labyrinth of reasoning into which scientists have been led, eyes riveted to earth... one who can keep his mind,
at the same time,
open to the metaphysical implications of all he learns, and
at last put the whole corpus of our knowledge together in one grand synthesis... He must
at once be a Thomist and an Atomist; until that reconciliation is attempted, the pulpit and the laboratory will be forever
at cross-purposes.»
Our age is in need of a great philosopher; one who can
thread his way, step by step, through the intricate labyrinth of reasoning into which scientists have been led, eyes riveted to earth, by the desire to improve our human lot, the desire to destroy life, or mere common curiosity; one who can keep his mind,
at the same time,
open to the metaphysical implications of all he learns, and
at last put the wholecorpus of our knowledge together in one grand synthesis.
I am not a theologian and do not assume to know the mind of God nor am I a man of any particularly extensive education so I do not claim that I have the answer
at all I just notice that this
thread did not get much attention and so thought that I might take it upon myself to
open it up for further discussion for those interested I will check back periodically to continue the discussion.

I'd really planned on putting up an
open thread today, but a couple of articles caught my eye during the wee hours of the morning as I was trying to convince the scaredy dog (yes, that is a word and the nicest I could call the drooler
at the time) that we weren't about to be tossed into the air only to land in Oz.

I've posted an extract over
at the
open thread of a rather cogent article on UVA and GMU which I hope will appear today (never mind the provocative blogsite name) which as I suspected associates recent presidential shenanigans with Mike Mann: http://daskrap.com/2012/8/why-thomas-jeffersons-university-killing-climate-science
Tamino
at his blog «

[Dec. 11, 1:21 p.m. Updated The comment
thread on this post is to become an
open discussion of developments in basic climate science, as described in a new piece aimed
at keeping other discussions here on target.]
He's keeps an
open thread alive there
at all times for posts that aren't related to his latest ramblings, there'd be no problem
at all with you posting your use of DSP techniques on temperature data.
Not only has he hijacked and largely wasted one
thread over
at open mind, as ointed out by Robert Murphy, but he has an entire 2200 + post
thread devoted to his nonsense over
at Deltoid.
But no surprises
at the result since just reading realclimate
threads for a while will send any
open - minded scientist's crap detector off scale.
Schmidt and Osborn's most recent comments were on July 2, the last day that comments were
open on the
thread, otherwise I would have attempted to respond
at Real Climate.
Although quite a few people helped to show that this wasn't true, the lion's share of the credit,
at least in the blogosphere, goes to Tim Lambert (who stopped blogging a while back, though his site still runs a montly
open thread).
Courtney... I believe Aruda's comments that
opened this
thread pretty much sum up the inability of anyone here to objectively look
at the science of climate change.

Yet when I
open up the logic of what you say, and look specifically
at the source data (ie this
thread), the complexity of the process of reading scientific writings, and the superficial process you claim to have used, I find your implied certainty entirely unwarranted, and by far greater margin than might be concluded of Dr. Lacis.
Also, I see you've had nothing to contribute
at the website you
opened back in July — like you've had nothing to contribute on this
thread.
As there's a serious discussion going on here I'll have a go
at responding re logical positivism in me simple fashion anon on «
Open Thread.»

OT Fyi John, I finally had a look
at Ayers as you suggested and I am happy to outline a list of reasons why not to lend his work any credibility on an
