A proper
open world title would allow you to save whenever you want outside of mission
areas, but one could state that exploits
like killing an enemy, saving, killing an enemy, saving, being killed, reloading, and similar stuff, would be too easy and frequent.

The change of scenery has both good and bad results - while the
open world looks impressive,
opens up room for extras and is fun to navigate, it does mean that there are more
areas that you will only ever skim past, perhaps not as easily appreciated as the few beautifully crafted buildings that made up the entirety of Arkham Asylum — making the game feel a little more Assassin's Creed than Metroid, but the game does generally maintain all of the great qualities of the original and it feels
like a natural transition to a larger scale setting.
While the demo shown at PAX featured a relatively restricted
area, Hob will feel very much
like an
open world, and exploration will be emphasized as a means of improving your character and progressing in the game.
Most notably, it removes the
open world that its predecessors used and replaces it with a map screen on which
area tiles are placed, almost in a Carcassonne -
like manner, though naturally without anyone competing against you.
A lot of the
world looks fine at times and then to come across
areas like the beginning
open area really makes the game look cheap, which it isn't as it is retailing at full price.
The
world of Drangleic is a wonderfully designed, with each
area being accessible via a branching selection of tunnels and the
like rather than being a truly
open world; yet the environment is massive, much more than in the original game, and players will find themselves losing hours exploring every nook and cranny and obtaining the multiple treasures hidden within.

Nintendo (and console games in general) 3D games have ALWAYS felt limited and contrived in traversing the game
world (Zelda with very specific entry and exit locations between
areas) as opposed to
open and flowing
like something
like....
I'd also
like to point out that Destiny is nowhere near as epic as promo videos would have you believe, and the various planets are actually quite small play
areas when compared to many of today's truly «
open world» adventures.
But the biggest takeaways from the demo are the game mechanics that Nintendo have brought in from the big boys
like Skyrim and Far Cry: it's a massive
open world with
areas free for exploration from the off; you can hunt animals and cook meals, this looks set to replace the classic red health potions that hid in the grass; Link will suffer in the colder climates without warm clothing or from crafting new potions and weapons will degrade over time.
These
areas are all
open world, so there is plenty to space to roam around plus little touches
like extra characters, vehicles and things to see.
I would really
like to see this kind of tiered exploration applied to
open -
world RPGs, apart from the usual «You must be this proficient / leveled / equipped to survive this
area» bit.
It still plays
like a Resident Evil 4 - style survival - horror game, but with tighter controls and the addition of large
open world areas that players can explore freely as returning protagonist Sebastian Castellanos.
It's one of a handful of
areas where Witcher 3 feels less
like a fully developed
open world RPG and more
like something
like Bioshock Infinite, where the
world feels populated for the convenience of the hero.
Once in that outside
area We Happy Few feels
like an
open world survival game with quests.
