of what he claims is a «sense
of ourselves and others as
of transcendent worth,» as precisely an «awareness
of ourselves and the
world as
of worth to God» (PP 86f) Y Ogden notes that such an evidently theistic explanation is not
open to empirical or experiential confirmation on either
of the two more restrictive descriptions which, as he observes, must either «refer the word God» to some merely creaturely reality or process
of interaction, or else., must deny it all reference whatever by construing its meaning as wholly noncognitive,» if they seek experiential illustration for such a sense at all (PP 80) 10
And we might conceive
of the entire progressively redeemed
world as «God's body,» in and through which God's primordial conceptual richness is actualized and
experienced in an
open - ended process.
Thus, as I see it, the options which remain are in fact two: either an existentialist approach or a «process thought» approach, since the «secular» theology in itself does nothing more than deny a particular kind
of metaphysic and leaves us
open to the possibility
of interpreting the secular
world, and everything else in human
experience, in some appropriate manner.
Just as the
world of poetic texts
opens its way across the ruins
of the intraworldly objects
of everyday existence and
of science, so too the new being projected by the biblical text
