of the Cosmic Cube.

Granted, I was really sceptical about the whole wormhole storyline, but the game's
opening cutscene gives a nice little rundown
of the situation and introduces you to, wouldn't you know it, a game story with roots in political fiction.
Maybe one
of the most intense
openings and
cutscenes that have appeared in a videogame in a long time.
Still, by incorporating a lot
of the more traditional elements
of open - world games, such as a regular map, waypoint system, and lengthy
cutscenes, the game has lost some
of the abstract charm seen in the original.
Even though all
of the mechanics work, and the game does not suffer any game breaking bugs, nothing Soul Suspect offers stands out besides the

While the character models still leave a lot to be desired in this day and age, the gameplay is adequately smooth, and the framerate is noticeably more stable, however expect to see some slowdown in sections where either enemies are spawning, new portions
of the level are
opening, or when it transitions to
cutscene material.
Oh, and the inclusion
of animated
cutscenes, including the incredibly energetic and mood - lifting
opening theme song, make for a definite stand out title in terms
of immersive, graphical story telling.

From the very moment the game transitioned out
of its
opening cutscene to handing me control
of the character, I was impressed by the sheer magnitude
of quality and attention to detail that has gone into the game, not just from a graphical standpoint but in the mechanics and the combat as well.
One aspect that's unquestionably better about this version are the pre-rendered intro and ending
cutscenes; the PS2's ominous
opening cinematic does a far better job
of setting up our villains as string - pulling megalomaniacs, compared to the stiffly animated, low - res - textured models
of the original game.
Lost Odyssey
opened with a
cutscene of two clashing armies with inexcusably tall helmets destroying each other as large spider - like tanks rejected from the Terminator franchise dropped hammer like arms on the soldiers below.
Airships appear during the

opening cutscene ends and the early resentment fades, you step outside your tent to be greeted with a stunning vista
of a lake with huge dinosaur - like creatures wading in the middle

of a shame the vocals have been stripped from the

Kojima capitalises on this, injecting visceral imagery and brutal drama into each
of the two
cutscenes (which serve to
open and close the game) and you get the sense that the helmer is trying to rein in the franchise from the spiral
of convoluted drivel that it found itself diving deeper toward.
