ELIZABETHTOWN — The Conservative Party primary for Essex County Judge continues to be unresolved following
the opening of absentee ballots on Friday.
With the results still uncertain in Rep. Charlie Rangel's most difficult primary battle so far, attention has turned to
the opening of absentee and affidavit ballots by the city Board of Election.
The scene was set for Wednesday morning's dramatic recanvassing and
opening of absentee ballots by too - close - to - call unofficial results in last Tuesday's primaries.
Also running, with some slim hopes for
the opening of absentee ballots next week, was Democrat Drew Boggess — just eleven behind, with 604 votes.

A recount took place today, as standard procedure, and now
absentee ballots will come into play to determine the true winners
of the three
open seats.
The Saratoga County Board
of Elections will begin
opening absentee ballots on Tuesday morning.
The
opening of 519
absentee ballots flipped the outcome to a 10 - vote spread against a new charter that would have dissolved the commission form
of government in favor
of one run by a city manager.
According to Valerie Vasquez - Rivera, a spokesperson for the Board
of Elections, the Board
of Elections will follow normal recanvasing procedures where a bipartisan team
opens up polling machines to get an official ballot count and then counts and validates all paper ballots (such as
absentee ballots).
A date to
open absentee ballots in each county will be established after the close
of receipt, sometime the first week in May.
Watch closely the
absentee ballot count, where, as
of November 8, there are 99 to be
opened.
But with races in three
of the city's nine wards well within the margin
of being flipped after
absentee ballots are
opened, the actual makeup
of next year's council will remain in doubt until next week when the final votes are counted.
Richman said Thursday's counting
of the
absentee and affidavit ballots would include «two bipartisan members from each borough, a watcher and a note taker at the table to make objections to
open or not
open specific ballots.»
That possibility remains for former county Democratic Party chair and incumbent county legislator John Parete
of Boiceville, who holds a slim 20 vote lead over Democratic challenger Kathy Nolan in the 22nd district, which includes Shandaken, Olive, Denning and Hardenburgh, with 217
absentee ballots on hand at the county board
of elections and a possibility
of more arriving before they can be
opened beginning Wednesday, November 15.
With the
absentee ballots from the Democratic areas
of the Senate District not giving the Dem the lead, the Republican lead should
open up and a 31 - 31 tie assured.
Incumbent Democrat Tim Bishop
opened up a 235 - vote lead over the GOP's Randy Altschuler as the counting
of absentee and affidavit ballots in New York's 1st Congressional District race wound down Tuesday.
At last report, Amedore led by 110 votes, but Tkaczyk took 60 percent
of the 2,800
absentee ballots previously
opened in Ulster.
On Tuesday, Brown sat in a drab, stuffy room near a loading dock at the Board
of Elections in Mineola as board employees
opened absentee ballots and Democratic Party attorney Keith Corbett and Republican Party attorney Stephen Martir examined each one - by - one.
Barrett led by a single vote following the primary election on Sept. 10, while the
opening of six
absentee ballots a week later reversed the status and put Meyer ahead by one.

The Rensselaer County Board
of Elections is set to
open and count the 117
absentee ballots at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Troy Democratic mayoral primary.
Interestingly, Sparaco boasted on social media that he knew the result
of the
absentee ballot count before the ballots were
opened by the Board
of elections.
Guests will bid on the 31 lots the night
of the event, when
absentee bids from those unable to attend will also be
opened.
