In addition to
operating an
animal shelter and finding good homes for homeless
animals, DCACC conducts public education
programs for adults and children, enforces state and county
animal welfare laws, promotes responsible pet - ownership and
animal welfare, and
rescues animals that are lost, diseased, injured, or in peril.
They are not associated with any government,
operate on donations and fund - raising projects, work closely with
rescue organizations, and try a variety of innovative
programs to reduce the numbers of stray
animals in the community.
Now, with guidance and support from Downtown Dog
Rescue, SIP
programs have been replicated and are
operating in three additional municipal shelters, run by separate nonprofit
animal welfare organizations.
We currently
operate 2 upscale thrift stores that sell donated merchandise — and in turn, we support
animal rescues and spay / neuter
programs with monetary grants.

Because the Minnesota Humane Society does not
operate its own shelter, we have developed associations with various Twin Cities no - kill organizations and our
rescued animals are placed into their adoption
programs.
The Sacramento SPCA is committed to saving
animal lives and practices each step of the «no kill» equation including: providing medical care, adoptions, working on behavior and training, developing partnerships within the community and with
rescue groups, maintaining a strong foster
program, providing free services to seniors to keep their pets, and
operating an on - site low - cost spay / neuter and vaccine clinic.
They
operate the New York State Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle
Rescue Program and is the only organization authorized to work with these federally protected
animals, according to the organization's website.
