The game's story and plot twists are nothing we haven't seen a thousand times before, but it is nice to see the overarching tale expanded upon
through optional conversations.
There are some nods to classic games while other times, it feels like the developer were having too much fun with their script as there are potential fourth wall breaking moments hidden during
some optional conversations.
Speaking of characters, U4 still delivers on the beloved banter between characters, in fact, it features some of the best moments between character interactions, some of these by the means of
the optional conversations mentioned above, characters interactions never fail to amuse and bring joy, and finding other people's stories through journal notes never cease to intrigue.
Most of the character - building dialogue happens during gameplay and
optional conversations that prevent the traversing from becoming stale.
A single playthrough should take around 7 - 8 hours, and that includes doing all the side missions, but you can add an hour or two for the treasures and
optional conversations.
The optional conversations provide new insight into the characters and demonstrate their bonds with one another.
Party Chat also returns,
optional conversations that are frequently prompted on your quest.
While
the optional conversations still exist and are accessible in the normal way — pushing a button when prompted — characters will now comment on their surroundings in real time.

As is tradition for the series, there's a codec filled with
optional conversations to further add colour to the story as well as some truly strange but amusing topics that you'd think would be the last thing on people's minds when on a mission to save the world, though it does grant some quirky and very Metal Gear character to the game.
