While there are a number of redemption options for Choice Privileges points including gift certificates and transfers to airline mileage programs, the best use of your points is to book free nights at hotels.

With the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase gives you the option of booking travel on Chase's Ultimate Rewards travel portal at a 20 % discount (for 1.25 cents value per point), or transferring to travel program partners at a 1:1 ratio, which may allow you to squeeze more value out of your points.

While SPG point transfers are the best option if you have loads of SPG points, since you receive a 5000 mile bonus when transferring increments of 20,000 SPG points, you can transfer other hotel points to AA miles, which may be worthwhile if you have a ton of these points or just need to slightly top up your AAdvantage account to redeem for an award.

My favorite transfer option for Ultimate Rewards points are Singapore KrisFlyer and Korean Air Skypass.

For additional options with flexible redemptions, you should consider Chase, Citi or Amex cards which have the possibility to be transfer points to many different airline partners.

You may earn more points for stays at Marriott and The Ritz - Carlton, but these points are generally considered less valuable than some of the other transfer options provided by Ultimate Rewards like United Airlines.

However, the 3:1 Membership Points to SPG Points transfer ratio is so poor as to make this a bad option for most travelers.

It's also a great card for someone who wants to start earning rewards but is intimidated by complicated redemption options and point transfers.

One of the greatest virtues of the Ultimate Rewards program is its variety of redemption options: You can redeem your points for cash back, gift cards or merchandise, you can purchase travel from any service or website and redeem your points for statement credits or — if you own a premium rewards card — you can redeem points for travel through the Ultimate Rewards travel site for a 25 to 50 percent bonus or transfer points to one of Chase's 13 travel partners.

These transfers can help you unlock much more value than the 1 cents per point possible using Pay With Points for flights, which in turn is a better option than any other non-transfer redemption.

If you are not ready to commit to a hotel chain, there are other options as well, including cards that earn flat - rate rewards that you can redeem for travel expenses or credits, or that allow you to transfer points to a hotel loyalty program.

Although ThankYou points transfer to Hilton Honors at a rate of 1 - to - 1.5, the option doesn't present the best value for your points.

The Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Unlimited cards are flexible point cards that offer a wide array of options for redeeming or transferring your points.

Cathay Pacific is also a transfer partner of Citi ThankYou Points which gives you yet another option for earning Asia Miles to help you book your award flight.

Even though this transfer requires 2 Membership Rewards points for 1 Elevate point, an extremely low rate of 6,233 Elevate points per seat made this a fair enough proposition, especially given how much better the Virgin flying experience typically is compared to our alternative option of US Air.

The more transfer partner options you have, the easier it is to use points for the flight awards you want.
