Their test drinks included still and sparkling water, soda (Coke and Diet Coke), sports drink (Powerade), Orange Juice, lager beer, black coffee, black tea (hot and cold), milk (skim and normal), and
an oral rehydration drink designed for children with prolonged diarrhea.
In fact, the researchers found that the best drinks for hydration were actually milk (both versions) and
the oral rehydration drink.

Oral rehydration solutions (ORS) are the best clear
drinks for babies (of any age) and children with gastro because they have the right amounts of sugar, salt and water to be easily absorbed in the gut.
The best treatment for diarrhoea is to (1)
drink lots of liquids and
oral rehydration salts (ORS), properly mixed with clean water from a safe source, and (2) take zinc tablets or syrup for 10 — 14 days.
The main treatment involves
oral rehydration therapy, where the patient
drinks water mixed with salts and glucose.
And of course if you're not in a position where we can replete, give those fluids back either through
drinking water or
oral rehydration solution ideally or through intravenous fluids, which many people are not due to our limited capacity to provide care in west Africa, the people who can't tolerate that are people who are older or younger or very young.
As noted above,
oral rehydration salts can also come in powdered form which you can mix with your dog's
drinking water.
