Do you ever make a trip
out to the
pumpkin patch in the fall to pick a couple of the big
orange gourds to carve for Halloween like I did with my family recently?
The second the first leaf starts to turn
orange in September, it seems like we bust
out with
pumpkin EVERYTHING.
A few weeks ago I discovered what I thought were two watermelons growing rogue in my garden turned
out to be
pumpkins — they looked very much like a striped watermelon that soon turned a lovely
orange color.
Most people usually dig into the
pumpkin, take
out all of the
orange strings and seeds and place it right into the trash.
I made these
pumpkin cookies with almond flour and coconut sugar (left
out the
orange flavor), and they are absolutely delicious.
A slight hint of
orange zest brings
out the
pumpkin flavor even more.
What I can do, and have started doing as a matter of routine (and, to be honest, as a matter of free therapy) every fall, is to collect my weight in
pumpkins and other
orange - fleshed winter squash, poke the bejeezus
out of them with a knife, pack them into a hot oven on sheet pans, and walk away for an hour.
We'll be pulling
out more
orange than the
pumpkins this fall!

I used to give
out little satsumas, small
pumpkins, home made cookies wrapped in a decorative
orange colors, persimmons, flowers and dark chocolates were my alternatives to hand
out!
You start
out with flax seeds, blueberries, coconut milk or rice milk, carrots, zucchini, onion, beets, kale, shiitake mushrooms, butternut squash, broccoli, mixed greens, chia seeds, sunflower seeds,
pumpkin seeds, broccoli with
orange oil and lemon juice, pear, apple, citrus zest (
orange oil or lemon oil), 1 teaspoon of brown sugar / honey / agave nectar per serving, and the spices / condiments listed above.
A swap
out of the
pumpkins and
orange candles, with the addition of some green and red and a tiny tree, and some dogwood in the hydrangeas finished it off.

I can leave
out the
pumpkins and bright
orange and red leaves from September through November and just switch
out a few select pieces for Halloween and Thanksgiving.
I pulled
out all my
orange pumpkins to decorate with and ended up putting them all away a few days later.
I used to feel a bit left
out when Fall came as my decor clashed with the bright reds and
oranges, etc. but not anymore now that we have white and soft blue
pumpkins.
The new seat (designed by BMW Group / DesignworksUSA) is tricked
out a sexy chocolate brown leather with a classy diamond - patterned stitching, which is brightened by pops of bright
pumpkin orange in the trim, pillows, and inside the multiple cubbyholes used for storage of person items.
Trace lawn - gathered leaves onto
orange, yellow, and dark red tissue paper; cut tracings
out, and stick them to
pumpkin using decoupage glue.
From there, I freehanded a plump
pumpkin onto a plain piece of drawing paper, but it
out and traced that onto the pillow with an
orange coloring pencil.
We recently took the kids
out to the
pumpkin patch, and found so many beautiful
pumpkins in all kids of shades of
orange and white!
I laugh because when we moved to our home 9
out of 11 rooms were some shade of
orange - from terra cotta, coral and rust to cinnamon and
pumpkin!
I carved
out my house numbers on each one and then filled the
pumpkins with some
orange holiday lights... it was cute, but unfortunately did nt last long.
Funny — there were loads of beautiful
pumpkins out at Half Moon Bay this weekend (HMB is known for its
pumpkin production) and as we drove by the gorgeous
orange and green fields, I asked my husband «who in their right mind would be buying
pumpkins right now?»
Then I would move on to putting
out my favorite deep
pumpkin orange decorations and Fall dinnerware but this year things are in disarray due to the remodeling.
But I do like to swap
out all the summery stuff for
orange throws and pillows,
pumpkins and gourds, and lots of candles (I discovered the joys of flameless ones this year, so I have them flickering all the time now!).
The darker colors will help the bright
orange pumpkins stand
out.
The combination of large
orange pumpkins, leaves, and gourds makes the bright red berries stand
out.
