So I present to you my latest Daring Baker's Challenge, a
vanilla bean and blood
orange panna cotta with
orange caramel sauce and
orange cardamom hazelnut dark chocolate Florentines made at the last minute.
I've created two variations based on it, a
vanilla bean and a blood
orange.
To accompany the layered
vanilla bean and blood
orange panna cotta, I made an
orange caramel sauce with a touch of allspice and
orange hazelnut dark chocolate Florentines.
This year i made a ton of stuff:
orange ginger marmalade, blueberry jam, lemon curd,
vanilla sugar, caramelised walnuts, spiced honey, cardamom coffee
beans and
orange & clove loose leaf tea.
orange zest For the frangipane cream: 1/3 c. millet flour 3/4 c. sugar pinch salt 2 eggs 2 egg yolks 2 c. whole milk 1/4
vanilla bean 2 tbs.
I didn't include the
vanilla bean, bay leaf, or almond extract, but took someone else's suggestion of adding
orange zest.
Remove
vanilla bean pod and stir in the
orange or lemon zest.
The
vanilla bean mingles perfectly with the blueberries and the
orange juice adds the perfect tang.

I ended up using everything I could get from three blood
oranges, and threw that into a bowl with the almost half cup of juice,
vanilla bean, Greek yogurt, coconut oil, sugar, and
vanilla bean paste.
You can use any kind of berry you prefer, and have fun changing it up with different mix - ins like lemon juice or zest,
orange juice or zest,
vanilla bean seeds or extract, cinnamon, cardamom, and any other spices or extracts you enjoy.
Once thick, remove from heat and add stir in the
orange zest and
vanilla bean.

One thing I did differently was to add two dried
vanilla beans to the batter when processing the
orange and agave.

HAPPY MORNING SMOOTHIE: Blood
orange adds a gorgeous natural pink color and pineapple and
vanilla bean yogurt add sweetness and spark to this healthy smoothie.
Other added ingredients to these bitters include devil's club root, schizandra berries, chinchona bark, cassia chips, star anise, wild cherry bark, cacao nibs, peppercorns,
orange peel, lemon and

Whenever I can, I use whole foods instead of extracts (lemon zest,
orange zest,
vanilla bean powder, cinnamon)- and I buy most of the extracts on Amazon (cherry, maple, etc.).
