The Viking
orbiters saw dust devils in the mid-1970s, but researchers weren't sure how much dust they threw into the atmosphere.
Around the south pole of Enceladus — a 500 - kilometer - wide runt of a moon many expected to be rather inert and uninteresting —
the orbiter saw tantalizing signs of activity — plumes of water vapor venting into space from fissures in the icy surface.
At the moment, Kaiser says, the trailing STEREO
orbiter sees areas of the sun that will be visible from Earth in about three days, but in two years» time the twin spacecraft will be separated by 180 degrees, allowing simultaneous observation of the entire sun for the first time.

«Sometimes they'll happen and you'll have to be somewhere else on Earth to

The evidence comes from the Mars Reconnaissance
Orbiter, which captured images of thin, dark streaks — quite likely soil — creeping down several slopes during Mars's spring and summer (
see sequence at right).
The
orbiter will search for clues to when and why the planet went from a warm, wet world to the cold, dry desert we
see today.

When the
orbiter had the Sun behind it, it looked straight down at the Venusian clouds and
saw the characteristic bull's - eye pattern, about 1,200 kilometers across.
Similar structures had not been
seen on Arabia Terra until the team analysed high resolution imagery from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance
Orbiter (MRO) spacecraft.

Edgett told SPACE.com that the gully changes
seen by MGS may be the first of many to be found by Mars - watching
orbiters.
The India Space Research Organisation, ISRO, is preparing for the launch of its Mars
Orbiter Mission by November 2013, which will
see the Mangalyaan Mars probe lift off from ISRO's launch site at Sriharikota, on the east coast of the India mainland.

The solar event on Sept. 11, 2017 sparked a global aurora at Mars more than 25 times brighter than any previously
seen by the MAVEN

According to observations made by NASA and ESA
orbiters, the extremely close flyby of comet C / 2013 A1 Siding Spring was accompanied by a meteor shower larger than any
seen on Earth.
Though there was never any danger of Siding Spring colliding with Mars or any of the
orbiters, its tail contained gas and fine dust particles that, when they hit the Martian atmosphere and vaporized, caused what was probably a spectacular meteor shower, though one that no one could
see except for the Curiosity and Opportunity rovers.

Orbiter, will
see a spacecraft operating closer to the Sun than any previous mission with a particular focus on examining the solar wind.
The Trace Gas
Orbiter has reached its final orbit after a year of «aerobraking» that ended in February.This exciting operation
saw the craft skimming through the very top of the upper atmosphere, using drag on its solar wings to transform its initial highly elliptical four - day orbit of about 200 x 98 000 km into the final, much lower and near - circular path at about 400 km.
While Curiosity will not be able to
see MAVEN as it arrives at Mars, the rover welcomes the
orbiter's discoveries.
