Orca Whales, however they only come randomly so it is not something you could expect to see.
Orca whales are requested
sighting and Vancouver Island is one of the most studied areas in the word for these magnificent creatures.
An entire day passed, without news — despite active searching efforts from
whale watchers — apart from a possible
sighting of the A34s far east in Johnstone Strait and a confirmed
sighting of transient
orcas near Campbell River.
While
whales are often viewed on all of our kayak tours, the Base Camp and
Orca Waters Explorer kayak tours have by far the most reliable
sightings of both
orcas and humpback
whales.

Orca (UK) Pacific Harbour Seals, Steller Sea Lions, Bald Eagles, Ancient Murrelets, Red - necked Phalaropes, and Common Murres.
Supplementing the acoustic data are visual
sightings of
orcas as they pass OrcaLab, and reports from land observation sites during the summer «season» as well as reports from other researchers and
whale watchers who share observations and information.
At least two of the three resident
orca whale pods have been
sighted this month.
June finished in fantastic fashion with

sightings in the San Juan Islands on almost every day of the month.
Minke
whales, more difficult to locate than
orca whales due to their solitary habits, occur during the same period but most
sightings are from mid-July to mid-October.

sightings of these intelligent
orca whales occur on more than half of our San Juan Islands kayak tours.

However, our kayaking routes are optimized for finding
orca whales, so

whales are very unpredictable.
When averaged through the entire season,
orca whales are seen on nearly two / thirds of our camping trips, but the peak months historically afford an 80 %
sighting success rate.
Apparently, wild
orcas, unlike their unfortunate caged brethren at SeaWorld, don't perform on a schedule, which is why all
whale - watching tour operators in the region, including ours, never guarantee
sightings.
As of August 17th the local
orca whale pods have been
sighted in the Salish Sea for 80 straight days — that must be a record!
