For example, just 0.1 percent of corn, soybean and cotton crops were grown under
certified organic farming systems in 1997, compared with 1 - 2 percent of oats, rye, dry pea and lentil, lettuce, apple and grape crops, and about one third of buckwheat, spelt, mixed vegetables and herbs (30.1 to 37.6 percent).
