Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a reboot of
the original Wolfenstein 3D first person shooter which was released for MS - DOS and other computer systems in the early 1990s.
Well, maybe a bit more, like creepy time controlling veils, strange occurrences that cause gravity to disappear, ray guns that disintegrate multiple men at a time, and a bit more strategy than
the original Wolfenstein had, which, in fairness, doesn't take much.
The original Wolfenstein 3D is the granddaddy of all first - person shooters, and The New Order is looking to breathe new life into the franchise, as it is a reimagining of the classic tale of soldier versus Nazis (this time they will be alternate reality 1960's Nazis!).
While
the original Wolfenstein was a strict linear affair, the sequel has attempted to add some semi-open segments into the mix.

I have a soft spot for
Wolfenstein, ever since playing the
original first person all those years ago so I was always going try out this game.
Episode 3 is just more
Wolfenstein - which isn't a bad thing since the game's great, but none of it is new or
original.

original game where the story is set after the events featured in the first game ending with William «BJ» Blazkowicz getting injured and going into a coma.

That's funny because I have Assasins Creed Origin,
Wolfenstein, and Shaow of War just to name a few which are ALL new games to play on my one X. Try coming up with an
original thought of your own because right now you sound pretty stupid.
Sorry, to burst your bubble but Castle
Wolfenstein had stealth WAY before the
original Metal Gear even released and if you're referring MGS i'd have you know that Tenchu (a stealth game I might add) came out before the
original Metal Gear Solid.
Like Bethesda's Switch port of Doom,
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus was developed by Panic Button, and it'll include «the complete, uncensored, award - winning story and signature gameplay» of the
original game.
Some of us were also a bit hesitant because after the release of
Wolfenstein that was nothing like the
original shooter, we were concerned that DOOM would become a shell of it's former self.
New characters, expanded sequences, and two gorgeous settings give The Old Blood a bit of an
original flair — though not nearly as much as The New Order brought with its own excursion into the
Wolfenstein lore.

You may recall that the
original game was developed by MachineGames and they were onboard during
Wolfenstein's port to the Switch as well.

That's nine years before
Wolfenstein 3D (1992) and ten years before the
original Doom (1993).
Frankly, it's great so see that id's managed to hang onto one of its
original IPs rather than palming it off to Raven (who brought us the solid but underwhelming Quake 4 and
Wolfenstein).
While Return to Castle
Wolfenstein shares some story elements from the
original it is really new story.
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is a decent spinoff that certainly complements its
original game (The New Order) well, but isn't quite as appealing as a standalone title.

Wolfenstein 2 though and the
original was one of my favourites of the past few years.

original Xbox has a mostly - accurate port of the PC version, included in the Xbox port of Return to Castle
Wolfenstein.
Although a subsequent
Wolfenstein game, The Old Blood, was released in 2015, this was more of an expansion pack compared to the
original rather than an entirely new entry in the series.
