It's not the most
original bit of humor but it works.

If you like horror movies, If you like Joss Whedon shows (Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse, etc) If you like Evil Dead, if you enjoy a
bit of humor with your horror, if you just like an
original fun story.
The
humor is a
bit sillier than in other McDonagh work (making fun
of ditzy, attractive young women isn't terribly
original), but still nicely leavens this quite somber plot.
Now while I do love the nostalgia
of the
original, this version had a
bit more personality and
humor to it that made it extremely more enjoyable.
And while the gameplay itself is questionable (you assume the role
of the
original Larry's college - bound nephew, Larry Loveage), High Voltage kicked up the
humor a
bit, making it raunchier and funnier than its predecessors, and in turn making the
original Larry games kind
of that older uncle who just isn't funny anymore.
The result is a surprisingly effective sequel that nearly matches the
original for its blend
of delightfully absurdist
humor and satirical
bite even while offering a narrative that is completely different from the film it follows.
And while the
original film was heavily criticized for its abundance
of mediocre to disappointing segments, especially in relation to those that delivered, I can confirm that the follow - up appears to have reigned things in a
bit, allowing for a more concise film that flows more evenly and doesn't fall into the pits
of fart jokes and juvenile
humor that prevented the
original from being truly great.
This is a classic that was drastically overlooked when it came exclusively to the
original Xbox, but is one everyone should have, it has a
bit of everything in it (puzzles, platform, story, great voice acting, polished graphics,
humor, collection, RPG, acheivements, ect...) The developers really put a lot into this game and it shows.
