of Manicheism and subsequent skepticism, and his restless search for truth and purity
of life; and finally how, distracted by the struggle between the two souls in his breast, and ashamed

garden, the stretched - out day
of torture and forsakenness, and the daybreak
of wonder, color and tomb - bursting newborn
life.
It is clear that the BEM document was an attempt to consciously, creatively, sincerely and prayerfully to face up to the challenges
of the time and to offer to the churches a document, which while not being in a position to satisfy everyone and reflect every shade
of opinion, nevertheless, optimistically looked forward to a time
of greater ecumenical interaction, moving beyond «the false ecumenical solution
of a comfortable denominationalism in which the churches each tend their own
gardens, careful not to bother or insult
