Pet travel has been all over the news these past months from the changes in service
animal travel
regulations to the errant shipping of pets to destinations
other than their planned one.
The updated
regulations still do not go far enough in addressing unacceptably long transport times, overcrowded trucks and
other problems causing needless suffering for farm
animals.
While chews made from rawhide, bone or
other animal parts are consumable, and are therefore considered «food» under FDA law, as long as the label contains no reference to nutritional value (such as «high protein»), the agency advises that manufacturers «may not have to follow the AAFCO pet food
regulations.»
There are
animal welfare
regulations virtually everywhere to deal with abuse / neglect / cruelty, and to suggest that * all breeders * need to be regulated, watched like criminals, and snitched on when they may not do * exactly * as an individual thinks that should is absurd, * insane *, arrogant, and on the way to Nazi - type gestapo actions if the fanatics get in positions to enforce their warped views on
others.
 No person, peace officer, officer of a humane society, or officer of a pound or
animal regulation department of a public agency shall kill any newborn dog or cat whose eyes have not yet opened by any
other method than by the use of chloroform vapor or by inoculation of barbiturates.
The
Animal Rescue League of Iowa believes that the best way to enhance public safety is to regulate dogs based on behavior, not appearance, and therefore we strongly oppose any form of Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) or
other regulations against a dog's appearance.

«High volume retail breeders» would no longer be exempt from
Animal Welfare Act licensing and
other regulation if they sell dogs directly to the public, whether over the internet, telephone or through newspaper ads.
«We are calling for much stricter
regulation on the ownership of air guns, as we strongly believe this will help to protect cats and
other animals from these shocking attacks, and avoid air guns falling into the wrong hands.
Under the proposed change in the
regulations, the AWA would now apply to breeders that don't maintain a physical place, a residence or
other place, where buyers can come in to observe the
animals for sale prior to purchase.
Foster families will comply with all national, state, and local
regulations and housing development or association rules concerning keeping a pet, including, but not limited to, zoning
regulations regarding numbers of
animals allowed per home of the jurisdiction in which the family resides and any rules set forth by the owner of the home if the owner is
other than the foster family.
The bill requires registration of all
animal rescues including foster homes but does not apply to any breeders
other than high volume breeders and dog retailers; hobby and show breeders, sporting or hunting dog breeders, pet stores and small «backyard» breeders would not be subject to any
