As a Christian, I find that I make the same mistakes
atheists make; I resent people typecasting me just as
others do, I
get my feelings hurt when people bash me for no reason, I
get angry when I see selfish, mean people attacking
others needlessly, and I hate war, death, and cruelty where ever it is found.
It's not about the nonexistent love of some «God» as
atheists understand the term, but about the very real love of people in a church who help each
other get through life.
I agree with
others, though, who say there are far more important
atheist battles to fight, such as
getting the Pledge of Allegiance back to its pre-Cold War wording.
But... we
atheists will allow out world view to be classified as a religion so that we can
get the protections all
other religions
get.

Any politician who publicly admits that he is an
atheist or a Muslim or a Hindu, or anything
other than a Christian would not
get enough votes to
get elected.
So yeah, I am an
Atheist in some senses and an Agnostic in
others but mostly, I am just a guy trying to
get by.
It does not require that you
get together with
other Atheists to discuss your «nonbelief».
nothing makes the
atheist more ticked off more than when you bring up GOD... God
gets all the blame for all the tragedy in the world... If there wasnt a god in the first place, humans would not know tragedy or injustice when we see it... it would be a non-issue to us... survival of the fittest would not permit the emotions of love, compassion, empathy... Darwininian theory could not allow any of those and many
other of the best of people's capacity for caring to surface... You cant explain it away by synapse or neurons... without a Supreme Being, there would be no sense of justice or injustice, we would not call it anything because there is no Ultimate Moral Standard to compare it.
Now let's see some
other teachings that communists / fascists / socialists and
atheists can't stand to hear (or read) because it
gets under their skins.
The only group I've seen
get the same level of invective leveled at
atheists online are witches and
other Pagans, but that seems to only happen when there aren't any
atheists milling about and the Pagans have repeatedly proven to a) know Christian theology and scripture better and b) remain calm, rational and compassionate yet resolute in their rejection of that theology.
I'd like to point out that the writer is not unique, and as member of AA for over 20 years, I have known people to
get sober in AA from every religion, denomination as well as
other atheists, agnostics or non-believers.
And I really
got ta say «progressive» Christians (two words that should never go together, the Gospel is timeless and therefore can not be progressive) have much more in common with
atheists and secular humanists than they do with
other actual Christians.
And... I didn't
get that she was «promoting» atheism, but showing «
others» that even if you are agnostic, or
atheist, or even non-christian, you can still derive benefit from the program.
Ok snide hat off: I agree that if anyone thinks they have all the answers they need to crack open many many many many more books, nor have I seen christians claim they know all the answers just as much as
atheist do, however it is crazy that christians, and
other relgious folks, seem to know what happens after death, how is it you
got those answers?
Powerful lobbies such as the Pro Israel lobby, American
Atheists and many
others pay top dollar to have shills come to these forums, spread their agenda and copy whatever info they can
get about the people who disagree with their point of view.

I however find it most amusing that

It's worth knowing that outside of the religious world, Jesus carries an enormous amount of clout, although it can be very hard to
get atheists to admit this (they may have very good reason to be angry with religion, and you know how people can be too fond of a worldview to admit

atheists are live and let live and couldn't care less about what
other people believe, but whenever you

I have seen several people here talk about «what does it hurt to let Christians or
