My Mum is strictly gluten free and I have used just regular rolled oats in these
balls before and
other recipes and she has no issues, as the gluten in oats is quite low.
There IS more cream in my
recipe than in
others — because when I initially followed those
recipes, the caramel on cooling turned into a semi-solid
ball that could break teeth when totally cooled.
They're super sweet and delicious and I'll be perusing your
other date
ball recipes to try another one.
In terms of
other substitution questions regarding this
recipe, I wish I had a crystal
ball and could predict which substitutions would work and which wouldn't.
Instead, this
recipe uses icing, sugar and ground almonds as a base, resulting in a taste actually superior to
other rum
balls.
I'm not quite sure because I only ever adjusted
recipes at 5000ft; 10,000 ft is a whole
other ball game!
I like to make 2 smaller cheese
balls out of this
recipe so I can keep one fresh and refrigerated while the
other is being eaten.
The
other recipes for this loaf call for a second rise after you shape it into a
ball.
But when making lattes, smoothies, bliss
balls or added to any
other recipes, I only use culinary matcha.

I've tried using TJ's almond meal for
other recipes, and it doesn't mix as well, the oils tend to separate from the dough
ball and drip out.
I can see these
balls working with a variety of
other recipes, even putting them in to a traditional chicken soup would be great.
While the
other energy
ball recipes that I have previously posted are all quite sweet, these are smooth and creamy.
I used this dough although used the method from Elana's
other Hamantaschen
recipe to roll into
balls, flatten and fill.
