movies — and of course I mean off the
big screen, with Seymour Hoffman's drug overdose back in February, Robin Williams» suicide and the death of
other names including Bob Hoskins, Lauren Bacall, Mickey Rooney, Eli Wallach, Shirley Temple and Richard Attenborough.
It may not be as much fun as
other big dominant event
movies (like Jurassic Park, Men in Black, and Home Alone, to
name just three of its decade's
biggest hits).
Like all of these
big - budget,
big name movies it plays by established laws carved out of a need for action, explosions, A-listers looking buff and references to
other assets within the studio's ever - expanding Universe.

Name; Focus Features» Darkest Hour, home to Best Actor frontrunner Gary Oldman, nommed today; Warner Bros» Dunkirk, with Christopher Nolan's stunning war
movie scoring eight noms; Focus» Phantom Thread, with Daniel Day - Lewis back in the Actor race; Fox's The Post, along with it the 21st nomination for Meryl Streep (though not for director Stephen Spielberg); and Searchlight's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, probably the
other frontrunner coming into today noms and which had seven nominations, with Martin McDonagh nominated for writing but not directing, and the film's
big three — Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell — all nominated.
Big names might get the average moviegoer to consider your release, but there's one
other element that's necessary to ensure a financial or critical success: your
movie has to be good.
I must say that this was one of the worst
movies I've ever watched, «Evil Dead» was better than this mound of shit... Gareth Edwards should be banned from directing hence forth, and now I hear he's directing the new Star Wars spin - off... I'm not one to talk down to
others but let's be honest, you have to be retarded to like this
movie... It made absolutely no sense, the script (the most important piece to any
movie) was terrible, the plot was stupid, the acting was horrible and it seemed that the actors who were chosen were acting for a different
movie all together... Where was the sense of urgency, I mean there were 300 foot tall behemoths walking through buildings and all you could show us was who was going ride with the little boy on the school bus... Maybe if all the main characters died and they just let Godzilla do his thing from there on out an eyebrow could've been raised but unfortunately, there isn't one good thing to say about this
movie... I'm shocked the WB handed over one their
biggest names to Legendary Pictures... Let's not forget what they've done with Superman Returns... This is shameful...
The third «Hunger Games»
movie, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson among many
other big name actors, does well as a pop culture phenomenon
movie.
This is economic filmmaking at its very best, because while «Attack the Block» may not be particularly stylish or boast any
big names, when your
movie is as much fun to watch as this, none of that
other stuff matters.
