From the fight that libraries are still
facing over ebook lending to the snail's pace of digital textbook adoption, as well as the realization from
booksellers that they will have to do something to accommodate ebooks if they plan to keep their doors open with big box and online bookstores breathing down their necks, it often feels like the industry as a whole would like to look the
other way and let digital reading burn itself out.
Meryl Hall of the
Booksellers Association said, «Showrooming is just one of a variety of pressures bookshops are
facing, with
other issues such as rising rents, high business rates, lack of town center parking and the unfair tax arrangements of multinationals also playing a role.»
