I find it fascinating that the term «
education reformer» is being used
in such a pejorative way by Ravitch and
others (though the strategy is obvious: lump together everyone fighting to
change the status quo
in hopes of getting the
public to dismiss them en masse.

Change the Stakes
Many parents feel they should have a choice
in the matter, but
others, particularly teacher unions, feel such
changes might undermine
public education as we know it.
The
public's familiarity with Common Core still far exceeded knowledge of the Local Control Funding Formula, the
other sweeping
change in California
education rolling out this year.
Pryor and
other charter school advocates claim that the Amistad Academy and
other charter schools provide a measurably better
education than do
public schools and are engaged
in an all out lobbying and
public relations campaign to
change the way Connecticut funds its schools, shifting scarce resources from our
public schools to the charter schools.
The
other case, Vergara vs. California, could fundamentally
change public education in California.
Changing Mindsets, Enhancing Leadership, and Strengthening Professional Development: Leadership and professional development programs
in education, social work, community development, and
other fields need to offer a sharper picture of the inequities that influence
public education.

change: Replace all or most of the school staff; contract with a private entity to operate the school as a
