This perspective may be unique in the academic climate community; I don't know of
any other climate scientists with skin in the game in private sector weather forecasting.

When combined
with overfishing,
climate change, fertilizer runoff — induced dead zones and
other human impacts on ocean fishes, a watery evolutionary stage has been set for a jellyfish takeover — dubbed the «gelatinous ocean» by some
scientists.
«If the Senate bill in its final form does not allow companies to use international offsets to achieve their targets, then the U.S. as a source of funding for REDD would die,» said Daniel Nepstad, a senior
scientist with the Woods Hole Research Center, which is a member of Hurowitz's Tropical Forest and
Climate Coalition, meaning
other countries might have to fill that gap
with their own funding and offset needs.
«This squares

other evidence,» says Peter Huybers, a
climate scientist at Harvard University, who calls the new study convincing.
He agrees
with other scientists who think that the U.S. must begin a series of talks
with the European Commission and the European Space Agency as well as
with counterparts in India, China and Japan to find a way to develop an international
climate observing system.
The results — along
with a recent Dartmouth - led study that found air temperature also likely influenced the fluctuating size of South America's Quelccaya Ice Cap over the past millennium — support many
scientists» suspicions that today's tropical glaciers are rapidly shrinking primarily because of a warming
climate rather than declining snowfall or
other factors.
A new study by
scientists from WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society) and
other groups predicts that the effects of
climate change will severely impact the Albertine Rift, one of Africa's most biodiverse regions and a place not normally associated
with global warming.
To develop the methodology, the

Fortunately, he and
other conservative Christians are being challenged by
climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe, who also happens to be an evangelical Christian on a crusade to demonstrate to her fellow believers why being a Christian is not in conflict
with accepting
climate change.
The researchers hope their work will help resource managers and
scientists keep a close eye on species that are moving north
with climate change over time, and predict their impact on
other species so they can concentrate conservation efforts and future research accordingly.
The vast majority of our interviews on the subject are conducted
with climate scientists, but it is important to hear
other viewpoints about the extent of
climate change and what should be done about it.
In cooperation
with scientists from the Thünen - Institut and the Ecuadorian Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, a team from TUM compared the predicted loss of area of tree species caused by deforestation on the one hand and by predicted forest losses in an extreme

other.

with more than 9,000 scientific publications on
climate change and more than 20,000 comments from «expert reviewers» (plus another 30,000 or so from various
other interested parties.)
The repercussions of the findings, which were published Thursday in Science, could make it harder to hold warming to limits set during recent United Nations
climate negotiations — but they're being received cautiously by
other climate scientists,
with questions raised over the results of the analysis.
Deforestation may have far greater consequences for
climate change in some soils than in
others, according to new research led by Yale University
scientists — a finding that could provide critical insights into which ecosystems must be managed
with extra care because they are vulnerable to biodiversity loss and which ecosystems are more resilient to widespread tree removal.
The research was led by University of Southampton biologist Dr Felix Eigenbrod working in collaboration
with Dr Patrick Gonzalez,
Climate Change
Scientist at the U.S. National Park Service, and two
other Southampton
scientists — Dr Jadu Dash and Dr Ilse Steyl.
Other scientists have interpreted this as bird and butterfly populations keeping pace
with climate change by favouring species that can best tolerate warmer conditions.
In
other words,
with more nitrogen available, plant life might be able to absorb more CO2 than
climate scientists have been estimating, which means the planet won't warm as much, despite mankind's pumping CO2 into the atmosphere.
All will be
scientists focused on
climate change, while future cohorts will represent
other fields of scientific inquiry, particularly those at the intersection of science and society and
with a record of scholarship related to communication.
That's compared to 30 to 40 percent estimated by the IPCC and
other studies, said co-author Kevin Trenberth, a
climate scientist with the National Center for Atmospheric Research.
As
with perceptions of scientific consensus on
other topics, public perceptions that
scientists tend to agree about
climate change tend to vary by education and age.
Scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory within the Atmospheric, Earth, and Energy Division, along
with collaborators from the U.K. Met Office and
other modeling centers around the world, organized an international multi-model intercomparison project, name CAUSES (Clouds Above the United States and Errors at the Surface), to identify possible causes for the large warm surface air temperature bias seen in many weather forecast and
climate model simulations.
When
climate scientists discuss the evidence
with each
other, the questions that matter to them are «Does the evidence show that the Earth's
climate is warming, or not?»
So what do you do when you have 250 more years» worth of a convenient, cheap fuel in the ground (at current rates of use) and

other countries
with vast reserves?

Other scientists disagree

climate trends.
Here's an excellent example of how to write really well and thus communicate effectively to the public and
others in authority the issues related
with climate science denial and the few academics and
scientists who choose the
other team.
It's getting to be that way
with climate scientists and
climate change accepters, at least in the U.S. (I can't speak for
other countries).
I am not a
scientist, but have a great fascination
with what is really happening in terms of
climate change and have followed the discussions on this site and a number of
others with interest.
I think
climate scientists know about these, but can't really make definitive claims, so they don't get into peer - reviewed articles much... or else
other scientists might attack them
with ferocity (even substracting denialists from the equation here).
As you point out
other studies agree
with the MBH study so I would have thought what amounts to a sudden global
climate shift would be of major interest to
climate scientists everywhere yet one sees relatively little written about it.
When
climate scientists start acting as advocates for some specific technology, writing letters demanding the nuclear power plants stay open, when many
other experts in the energy field have well - developed reasons for closing them and going
with wind / solar / storage instead, it doesn't do
climate activism any good.
«The scientific talent leading these studies, the partnership
with industry and access to their facilities, and the diverse research methods used, gives us the confidence that when the project concludes in late 2014, we'll be able to greatly increase our understanding of the
climate impacts of switching to natural gas from
other fossil fuels, through this unprecedented collective research effort,» said EDF Chief
Scientist Steve Hamburg.
I got into a Twitter spat

I have also worked closely

The best recent representation of Sachs's views is the paper he and
others co-authored
with James E. Hansen, the longtime NASA
climate scientist who now has a
climate policy position at Columbia, in which they build on Hansen's longstanding call for a rising price on carbon.
Climate science is an area that exemplifies the importance of ensuring that policy makers — particularly Governments and their advisers, Non-Governmental Organisations and
other lobbyists — understand the limits on what
scientists can say and
with what degree of confidence.
Michael Mann of Penn State and Rasmus Benestad, a Norwegian
climate scientist, has weighed in on Realclimate.org
with a useful review of the new hurricane study in the context of
other recent work.
The challenge, of course, is that a science - based definition of the «
climate crisis» (I still think that
climate scientist Richard Somerville defined that term best in a 2007 debate
with Michael Crichton and
others) is not the kind of message that will get people rushing to the ramparts.
James (comment # 177) I agree
with you that I would be making a very academic point if no
climate scientists were suggesting a general connection between hurricanes (and
other extreme weather events and
climate change).
