We are quick to
quote other commandments against sins that are repulsive to us, but what about the sins of ambition, greed and egomania that manifest themselves in empire - building, money - grubbing, Babel - erecting success stories?
You shall not bear false witness, and you shall not commit adultery followed as
other commandments important to the 1,680 adults interviewed.
The commandments, «Do not commit adultery,» «Do not murder,» «Do not steal,» «Do not covet,» and
whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: «Love your neighbor as yourself.»
All other commandments and laws will be followed if you follow Christ's two great commandments.
Jesus said to live by 2 rules, and
all other commandments will fall into place.
All of
the other commandments such as thou shall not steal and stuff are pretty obvious things that people should not do.
Just crazy, circular post after post with no concept of truth in any of it, continually breaking the «bearing false witness» commandment while wagging their finger about
every other commandment that their fascist god himself doesn't even follow.
So in a way, these bad things that happen are a result of sin, but not because God is reaching down with his finger and squashing people like bugs because they took His name in vain, or broke one of
His other commandments.
There is
no other commandment greater than these.»
«It is striking that at times, in claiming to uphold
the other commandments, they completely ignore the eighth, which forbids bearing false witness or lying, and ruthlessly vilify others.»
Not only does it take up more space in the Decalogue than any of
the other commandments, but it is reformulated and discussed throughout the pages of Scripture.
Romans 13, «For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if [there be]
any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.»
If so, does that the mean that
the other commandments, such as the prohibitions against adultery or idolatry or the command to honor one's parents, are also no longer relevant for Christians?
Purposefully, this is the final Word, for it is a summation of all
the other Commandments.
The other Commandments deal with actions, and we might be able to refrain from the overt act of killing, committing adultery, or stealing, but this Commandment deals with the inner attitudes, and obviously it is far more difficult to prohibit attitudes than it is to prohibit actions.
The other Commandments, at least until Jesus reinterpreted them in the Sermon on the Mount, focus on the external level of human life somewhat like a photograph.
For the Sabbath, like the subjects of
the other Commandments, has had a long history of development.
Some of his words were obviously expressions of the commandments of God — for example, «Honour thy father and thy mother» (Mark 7:10) and
other commandments of the decalogue (Mark 10:19), as well as the Shema and the command to love one's neighbour (Mark 12:29 - 31).
Matthew 7:12 «In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets» Matthew 19:19 «YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF» Romans 13:9 «and if there is
any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying,» YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.»
But I'll choose: «Treat the other parent with respect» because so many of
the other commandments flow from that.
He said wearing of hijab, like
any other commandments of Allah, brings the wearer closer to her Creator and give her a sense of satisfaction and contentment.
No other commandment is greater than these.»
