From the Impressionists onwards,
artists have been inspired by historical and
contemporary colour theories - most markedly seen in the pointillist work of Georges Seurat and his associates, where colours
other than those actually painted
on the canvas are generated in the eye of the beholder.

Another Land: After Noguchi represents The Noguchi Museum's ongoing engagement with
contemporary artists, writers, designers, musicians, and
others as a means of illuminating the scope of Noguchi's vision and his continuing impact
on our culture.
Frielicher, along with
other artists including Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Betty Parsons lived and worked
on the East End, and it's still a thriving magnet for
contemporary artists such as Julian Schnabel, Jennifer Bartlett, Chuck Close, Annie Leibovitz, Mary Heilmann, and Lynda Benglis.

In this exhibition six
contemporary abstract painters — Mark Grotjahn, Wade Guyton, Mary Heilmann, Amy Sillman, Charline von Heyl, and Christopher Wool — were asked to select one or two of their recent paintings to be shown alongside works by
other artists who have had a significant impact
on their thinking and the development of their practice.
Alvaro graciously took me
on a long walk through the Sheung Wan and Central districts of Hong Kong Island to visit some of the
other area galleries and local sites; Hanart TZ Gallery, Osage Soho, Tang
Contemporary, Gallery Exit, and 10 Chancery Lane where I saw a new video by Dinh Q. Le, a past member of the Hammer's
Artist Council.
Since 2006, 21c has collaborated
on arts initiatives with
artists and cultural organizations worldwide, including
Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, MASSMoCa, North Carolina Museum of Art, Speed Art Museum,
Contemporary Art Museum Houston, Creative Capital Foundation, and
others.
Steinberg's response to that landmark text was the 1962 Harper's essay «
Contemporary Art and the Plight of its Public,» in which he made a startlingly democratic appeal: «May we then drop this useless, mythical distinction between —
on the one side — creative, forward - looking individuals whom we call
artists, and —
on the
other side — a sullen, anonymous, uncomprehending mass, whom we call the public?»
He is a Brooklyn, NY based collector of modern and
contemporary artist and photobooks, photography,
contemporary ink painting, and
other work
on paper — primarily focused
on Japan and China.
A Rail Curatorial Project led by Phong Bui of the Brooklyn Rail, OCCUPY MANA focuses
on artists whose practice interrogates the
contemporary social climate, including issues surrounding immigration, the environment, human rights and equality, foreign relations, among
others, ultimately drawing attention to art as it functions as a lens for better understanding the time in which we live.
