Dogs, True Romance and Pulp Fiction (the first two I watched back to back one weekend afternoon, after my friends learned I'd never seen a Tarantino film; I had heard he'd won the Palme d'Or, but didn't know he'd made any
other movies) demanded we familiarize ourselves with their influences: film noir, Howard Hawks, Jean - Luc Godard (one of our favorite pass - times was driving around to all the video stores in town looking for a copy of Breathless.
However, for every cool piece of spy gear, the

More so than any
other Anderson
movie, «Isle of
Dogs» is almost fetishistically patterned.
Violence: This animated
movie contains non-graphic and mildly explicit violence throughout, including depictions of decapitation, weapons use (swords, Tasers, nets, mechanical
dogs) explosions and riots (protesters throw things at
other people).
It harkens back to Tarantino's first film, Reservoir
Dogs, where the entire
movie took place in a single set and just showed the different characters riffing off of each
other.

Dog Fight when we were on the set, a title that still suits this
movie quite well, since these candidates go after each
other's reputations... and kids... and wives... in hilarious and unorthodox ways.

It's a play for the high and the low, in
other words, a
movie where a pissing
dog is the only character that grows as a person — where the final message of the film are the shockers that there's a difference between men and gods and that real decisions can't actually be made without God (contradicting the picture's God directly, as it happens).
