Additionally,
for families with young children and / or
other pets, we offer a two week trial
adoption for dogs that have been in foster care
for at least two weeks.
Sixteen of the
dogs are ready
for adoption this week, and the
other 30 have more serious medical or behavioral conditions and are in need of placement with local and regional rescue partners.
Volunteering with those organizations highlights not only the expense involved in preparing them
for adoption (vet checks, vaccinations, spay / neuters, often
other health problems, food, physical care, transport, etc etc etc), but also highlights how essential it is to make a good match
for the
dog - and that means getting to know the applicants carefully and choosing the best match.
Some
dogs in foster care need a little more time to rebound than
others and will only be available
for adoption when ready
for a forever family.
So, in a nutshell, these people, under the guise of being a friend to animals, make a $ 200 - $ 400 profit
for each
dog they obtain from the shelter or
other adoption means — CL, local classifieds, etc..
Honestly, that made them more attractive to us than all the
other groups and only made the
adoption that much more convenient
for us... we were excited that we could take the
dog home instantly.
Right off the bat, we'd say a
dog who has been labeled as one who «needs to live alone» — code
for not getting along with
other dogs — probably shouldn't appear on a live TV
adoption segment with
other dogs.
