There are
no other ereading apps available yet.
You can't even use the Amazon appstore to download and install things like alternate web browsers or
other ereading apps, except OverDrive, because Amazon is so controlling that they hide them from appearing on Fire tablets, even though many are offered in Amazon's appstore using other devices.
And that's not a dig on the Vox's processor because
other ereading apps are as fast as they usually are.
In portrait mode I see a single «page» but in portrait view I see two pages side by side — just like a book, and like most of
the other ereading apps.
The Nook Touch and Sony PRS - T1 and T2 all run Android and they can be hacked to install
other ereading apps and do all kinds of crazy things.
It also works to give
other ereading apps like FBReader and Kindle partial page refresh.
It can install
other ereading apps as well.
But the idea of being able to run Android apps on an E Ink ereader is very tempting, especially
other ereading apps.
Amazon purposely removes certain apps, such as
other ereading apps, from the Appstore because they don't want you to use them on the Kindle Fire (you can sideload them anyway)
Don't get me wrong, the Nook is a nice ebook reader and I especially like the GlowLight Nook, but it is fairly limited in functionality unless rooted, which opens it up to install Android apps, including
other ereading apps like Kindle and Kobo.
Unless they allow
other ereader apps on the Kindle Fire they risk alienating owners who own libraries of digital content in other formats than what the Kindle Fire supports....
I don't know anyone who reads ebooks that do it on a ereader...... I know tons of people who have the Kindle app as well as
other ereader apps on their phones and tablets....
There is no official word from Google why the app has been removed, but TDR also noticed that most
other eReader apps have been altered to deal with Apple's charges.
The Kindle's X-Ray feature is an excellent differentiator from
other eReader apps.

You can still read books by installing the Android Market and downloading the NOOK app, Kindle app, or
other eReader app.

Kobo has designed a way to provide stores with dedicated tracking links for downloads of the Kobo Reading
App, so customers who read eBooks on devices
other than
eReaders can purchase books through smartphones, computers, and tablets and have them credited to the store.
I'll be adding the ebook to
other distribution platforms such as Kobo and Smashwords shortly, but if you'd like to read it now and don't have an
ereader, simply download the free Kindle
app to the electronic device of your choice (phone, tablet, PC, etc).
All Amazon Kindle products and
apps only read MOBI files, while iPad, Nook, and most
other ereaders recognize EPUB files.
They have a wishlist on their desktop
app for Mac, but that wishlist doesn't exist on any
other platform I know of (iOS, their main website, and their online
eReader - site), and you can only add books to it from the main screen of the desktop
app for some reason, but not when you look at the page of a specific book.
But now you have the option to install Android
apps, including a number of
ereading apps, news
apps, web browsers, note
apps, and
other utilities.
Instead of calling it the «
eReader»
app for Android, as B&N refers to all their
other apps, they've decided to call it Nook for Android.
One of the main advantages the InkBook Prime has over
other Android
ereaders is the fact that the Kindle for Android
app actually works pretty well.
The
app connects to a variety of online sources for free and paid books, and can read
other books in non-DRM-protected ePub,
eReader, PDF, Comic Book Archive, and DjVu formats.
The default reading
app that comes with the InkBook Prime works well but it's fairly basic compared to
other apps and
ereaders.
If you're interested in social recommendations, 3G,
apps, or any of the
other bonus features found on the Nook and Kindle, it's best to go with one of those, obviously, but the totally uncluttered and ultra-simple operation of the Kobo
eReader Touch Edition makes it a perfectly good choice for an e-reading novice or purist.
Then you are allowed to download it to any capable
ereader that you set up to have access to your B&N account such as the PDN, Nook, or any
other Android device with the Nook
app.

eReader app called Blio and Bulletin Board which is a Toshiba program that aims to act as a one - stop portal that will provide access to a calender, the documents and pictures that have been in use along with
other frequently - used applications.
but honestly... I don't know what I would really do with one (
other than the two
apps I've already mentioned) One of which (kindle) probably doesn't run as well as the native Kindle
ereader.
In the end, the Kindle Fire as an
ereader is hardly any different than any
other Android tablet with the regular Kindle for Android
app installed.
Reading Life is one of three unique components of the Kobo social - reading experience, the
others being the Kobo
eReading App and Kobo Pulse.
Both versions of this now - universal
app perform quite capably as competitors to the
other big e-readers on the market — Amazon's Kindle
app and Barnes & Noble's BN
eReader.
Built on an open platform, Kobo Touch allows consumers to read eBooks from
other stores that use the ePub format — plus read PDF documents and books on a growing number of Kobo
eReaders and
apps.
And somehow I don't see the
other major players, like Kobo and B&N, allowing Amazon
apps on their
eReaders... And I know that they also try to lock you into their ecosystems, but rather then doing so with proprietary formats, they use DRM's.
Some people like having an Android device for more forms or
ereading, like RSS feeds, comics, web browsing (the Kindle's browser is dreadful), integrating with Dropbox, a choice of a bunch of different ePub
apps, etc, and
others just prefer to read Kindle ebooks, in which case the Kindle has the advantage.
With each «buy direct» purchase, you get both a mobi file (for the Kindle and Kindle
apps) and an EPUB file (for most
other ereading devices and
ereading apps).
The Disney Books are also available in EPUB and PDF formats for
ereaders, tablets, phones, and
other portable devices using OverDrive's free
apps.
With
eReaders the first
app store that gains traction is going to destroy every
other eReader.
Ereading, Games, Multimedia, and Social — each of these icons look just like any
other app icon.
This «
app» has been created by a computer programmer and allows the user to read your book with it's own eBook reader included as either part of the application itself, or perhaps it may be grouped together with a customized
eReader «reader» application from a vendor
other than Apple.
Couple that with the lightweight design and all the
ereading apps available in the Google Play store, this is going to be one formidable tablet for
ereading, let alone all the
other features it has.
On
other apps, parts of the gray bar are taken up with context - specific buttons such as a font and table of contents buttons in the
eReader.
The iBooks application is great for those who want to use their iPad as an
eReader, but there are many
other great iPad
apps out there that should be installed on almost every iPad.
Like many
other eReaders and their associated Android
app, Google Books will keep track of what you are reading and what page you last read.
In terms of
eReading system, the similar interface has been seen before in
other apps I have used but that is not all.
With the Google «Books»
app now available as a free download in the Android market, its time to see how well it stands up against the
other Android
eReaders.
I think Amazon would be wise to continue to emphasize the literary aspect, though; if they highlight their «
apps» (even after they have more of them), they couldn't possibly compete on that front with the iPad (they could compete with
other eReaders, of course, but the iPad would be the first thought in everyone's minds the moment they hear the word «
app» or «game»).
Smashwords ebooks are now distributed via multiple online channels, including Smashwords.com, Stanza (the e-reading
app used by 2 million + people on the iPhone / iPod Touch), Aldiko (for Google Android phones) and soon, the Barnes & Noble network (Barnesandnoble.com, Fictionwise,
Ereader app,
others).
Once you checkout a book on your Kobo
ereader, it will show up on your
other OverDrive
apps and Kobo
ereaders as well when synced.
