In just its second full year of operation, the New York - based A24 managed to release 11
films, with one (Under the Skin) landing on quite a few critic top - 10
lists, and two
others (the Tom Hardy - starring Locke and the just - released A Most Violent Year) also greatly impressing reviewers.
By the way, speaking of names invoked, it was nice to hear the names John Huston and John Ford mentioned on your site along with your
listing of some of their masterpieces (personally, I think that just about every
other film John Ford made from Stagecoach on to his retirement was a masterpiece).
Rollerball belongs on the same

other lackluster «re imaginings» as most recent horror
films.
Despite that extra-large
list, there was no room for Amy Adams
other, more high - profile
film this year, Arrival.

That's our convoluted way of saying that The A.V. Club looked both high and low for the best scenes of 2015, culling from a whole spectrum of
films — some likely to appear on this week's best - movies - of - the - year
list,
others unlikely to appear on any such
list, and at least one certain to get called out in our public shaming of the year's worst movies.
In this case, that amounts to your typical scene - specific trivia in addition to some
other interesting tidbits, like the title of the cut from the
film's score that's playing at any given moment, or detailed cast and crew
listings.

Film Journalists Association stay active throughout the year serving on
film festival juries, attending and sponsoring special screenings, appearing at
film and genre - specific conferences, and speaking to civic groups, schools, media outlets and many
other places.
How can we gauge how it's doing against
other horror
films if it's not
listed as one?
This latest Disney picture, Beauty and the Beast, joins a growing
list of live - action movies which traces its origins to animated
films, including «The Jungle Book,» «Pete's Dragon,» «Cinderella» and «Maleficent,» among
others.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE
FILM Having seen «The Lives of
Others,» «Pan's Labyrinth,» «Water,» «Days of Glory» and «After the Wedding,» I can attest that this is one awesome

Coming in third was Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, with the rest of the

David Mamet ---- «House of Games «If it feels like some of the writers on this
list kind of lucked into direction having written a
film (or several) that became a mainstream success thereafter, there are a few
others whose writerly voice was already so established that the idea of having them direct a straightforward genre
film is kind of inconceivable (see also: Charlie Kaufman).
Critically acclaimed for his comedic television ventures along with an enormously successful
list of
film credits, Apatow has produced such
films as: The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Funny People, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Superbad, Pineapple Express, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, The Cable Guy; and television series: Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, The Larry Sanders Show and The Ben Stiller Show, among
others.
While the pacing isn't as tight as some
other films on this
list, the Russo Brothers prove here that they're the ones to beat when it comes to dynamic action sequences that seem to be lifted directly from the comics.
As for the
other films on his
list?
Miyazaki's
film is technically a 2013 movie as it did get an Oscar - qualifying run and ended up on a few of our Best of 2013 Top 10s as well as many
other critics»
list, but it also technically doesn't get a proper U.S. release until February 21.
The results of Sight & Sound's annual
film poll — one of the oldest and most venerable of critics» polls — are out, and it will please Slate's Julia Turner, among
others, to see that Get Out has topped the
list.
I'll leave out any negative reviews, because I'd rather focus on the mainly positive responses I had to this year's selections (in
other words, I did see more
films than the ones
listed below).
Other films just missing the cut: Oliver really loved «Miss Violence» at the Venice
film festival and it made his five best
films list (review here).
Her
other film credits include the critically acclaimed feature «Safety Not Guaranteed,» «Ned Rifle,» «The To Do
List,» «A Driftless Area,» «Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,» and «Funny People,» among many
others.
If any of the
other films in our top 15 end up on that
list you can bet their stock will rise in this race.
After some deliberation (which no doubt has still allowed me to overlook something for which I'll facepalm later) here is a
list of ten
films that I'm very excited to see in 2012, followed by a full page of discussion about a whole bunch of
other movies that didn't make my personal cut but are still bright spots on the 2012 calendar for various reasons.
But what
other noun used as an adjective could be more appropriate for an Achievement
list that actually references Fred Savage's 1989 magnum opus
film The Wizard?
Eight
other films made the Best Picture
list, including Get Out, Lady Bird, Phantom Thread, and Dunkirk.
I'm glad to see a sudden resurgence by him in such
films as the eventual blockbuster Captain America: The Winter Soldier as well as a few
others listed on IMDb.
I could have gone with the number of
other LEGO games based on
films like Indiana Jones or Jurassic World, but both of those had too many flaws to make the
list (Jurassic World especially).
There are quite a few
other very good movies (The Tai Chi Master, The Age Of Innocence, Menace II Society, Schindler's
List), but this year's only got good
films into the 40s, whereas the next two years make it into the 50s.
Other premieres on the
list include the latest from «What We Do in the Shadows» director Taika Waititi (a comedy called «Hunt for the Wilderpeople,») the newest
film from «Love is Strange» director Ira Sachs («Little Men,») and the next directorial project from actor John Krasinski, «The Hollars.»
(Interestingly, in a year that has given us a lot of disappointments... A LOT... I have also been able to find two
films that might make my all - time greats
list, the
other being the delightfully bizarre indie Swiss Army Man.)
