What I'm trying to get at here is that I know a lot of

foods just because they look pretty and I'm always a bit disappointed when I see
other people
who live in northern climates loading up on imported everything in the winter.

My friend Colleen,
who happens to be a
food blogger, had the idea to reach out to
other bloggers as well as some of their collective contacts to pull off a fantastic holiday surprise for 21 children
who live in a small remote village in Alaska where one can only get in or out by bush plane or a small boat via the rough Nushagak River.
So I am three days late starting the 10 Day Real
Food Challenge, inspired by local
blogger ChildOrganics,
who initiated the challenge for
other bloggers based on the website 100 Days of Real
Food.
As a
blogger who tackles school
food reform questions, among
other topics, I feel a real sense of relief that this website now exists.
On Skinny Daily, Ridl and two
other bloggers who share her site analyze new recipes for carb and fat content, pore over nutritional guidelines when they come out, discuss new
food movements (lately, organic), and share healthy snack ideas.
Some of them are part of my life (my sister, my family of friends, my university professors, ladies I collaborate with) and
others part of me forever (my mother and grandmother); and then there are also those
who I have never actually met, but make an impact all the same: inspiring
food bloggers and photographers whose work and kindness I admire and aspire to, poets and activists, comedians and writers
who make me feel so damn proud to be a woman.
