program, meet me, talk to me, maybe come visit for a couple
of weeks.

graduate students even before school starts by requiring them, if they are receiving financial support from the department, to participate in a 1 - week seminar on organizing presentations, grading, and
other professional issues.

of the reasons many minority scientists cite when leaving
graduate programs is that the numbers
of other minority scientists are very low.
