However, while the function of TRM themselves was maintained, their influence was severely impaired: Normally, TRM that sense an invader can
recruit other immune system cells, known as bystander T and B cells, to help fight infection, but sepsis stymied this process in the mice.
Because the antigens were the only possible source of TB exposure, Dr. Srivastava says, antigen transfer from infected dendritic cells had to be the avenue for their absorption
by other immune system cells in the lymph nodes.
The trouble is that the virus targets not only the lymphocyte cells, which include T cells — a key component of the body's immune system helping to fight diseases — but
also other immune system cells.
In a series of experiments now published online in the Journal of Immunology, the researchers show that the process of proliferation unlocks expression of the gene in NK cells for producing Interleukin - 10 (IL - 10), a protein that
moderates other immune system cells.
Water helps in the production of lymph, which carries white blood cells and
other immune system cells.
Then they migrate to the local lymph nodes where they present the antigens to
other immune system cells (T lymphocytes) to stimulate them into a variety of activities to protect the body (immunity).
